Aleks and Sarb said their UBC boathouse wedding day would have been perfect; if it could have lasted ten more days, that is.
The teamwork of family, friends, and all the vendors during the day ensured that everything came out perfectly, and exactly as they had envisioned.
“Our wedding day was an amazing whirlwind of emotions, laughter, happiness, love, and gratitude. It felt like it was over too soon! It was the best feeling to see everyone that means a lot to you, altogether there to celebrate with you.”
Aleks and Sarb’s first date was in true west coast style on Commercial Dive over a warm cup of JJ bean coffee. They simply clicked and it’s been ‘love at first coffee’ ever since. Sharing a passion for travel helped to bond them as a couple and they have recently returned from their dream vacation to Central/South America.
Combining their cultural backgrounds was important to Aleks and Sarb. Special thought was given during the planning to ensure that their heritage was honoured.
“We included Indian food as part of our dinner option for guests to bring in some Indian cultural aspects to the wedding. As well, once the dance floor opened we asked our DJ to mix in some Indian and Polish music to what he was playing to again bring in some cultural background from both sides.”
Friends and family in addition to helping on the day were also given roles to play in the ceremony itself. Creating personal touches that really made the day unique.
“We had a friend do part of the ceremony, he did the ring ceremony, and it made the whole process so much more personal. My sister-in-law and nephew also played piano as guests were arriving, making it special.”
Looking back, Aleks and Sarb’s biggest piece of advice for other couples planning their day; is to be prepared and put a fair bit of time into the planning.
“The hardest part was finding the time to organize everything, when we were at work all day. It felt like there was always so many things to do or plan. Consider your venue and if you may need a planner on the day of the wedding to help with some of the logistics. Especially at the end of the night.”
Aleks and Sarb did a spectacular job planning their UBC boathouse wedding. The day was a brilliant mix of excitement, emotion, and so much love. Filled with the people that mean the most to them.
At the end of the blog, Aleks + Sarb share their favourite memories from the day, as well as the vendors who helped to make their day so memorable.

Aleks + Sarb had three photos they felt captured the moment so perfectly and spoke of the true spirit of their day.
“The one when we’re leaving the ceremony and everyone is blowing bubbles. We’re smiling ear to ear, it captures the happiness and mood of that moment so well.
When we’re dancing under the hanging cafe lights, it has this warm glow that takes me back to that moment. When it felt like it was just the two of us and no one else was there.
The candid one with mom and dad dancing, they make me smile. I feel like those ones caught lovely moments.”
